In addition to her historical fiction, Meyer has written a diverse range of non-fiction books for young adults, covering topics such as the Amish, Japanese culture, and bread baking. She has also written books for younger readers, with subjects as varied as rock tumbling and coconuts. Meyer's versatility as a writer is evident in her ability to tackle such a wide range of topics. Ten of her books have been chosen as Best Books for Young Adults by the American Library Association.

Meyer's writing career began more than forty years ago with the publication of her first book, "Miss Patch's Learn-To-Sew Book." This book was intended to teach young girls how to sew, with the main character being a roundish, gray-haired lady with a needle in her hand. Since then, Meyer has written over sixty more books, including non-fiction and novels. She has become particularly passionate about history, a subject that was not a favorite of hers when she was a young student. Through her writing, Meyer shares her passion for history with her readers.

Currently, Meyer lives in a cozy Victorian house in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her impressive body of work and her ability to write about a wide range of topics make her a highly respected figure in the world of young adult fiction.
