Catherine Chung is an accomplished American author, well-known for her writing in historical fiction and contemporary novels. She was born in Evanston, Illinois, and grew up in various parts of the United States, including New York, New Jersey, Michigan, and Illinois. Chung had a deep love for reading from a young age, which eventually led her to pursue a career in writing.
Before becoming a full-time author, Chung studied mathematics at the University of Chicago and worked at a think tank in California for a few years. However, her passion for writing never waned, and she eventually returned to it, earning recognition as a gifted writer. Chung's first novel, Forgotten Country, was published in 2012 and received critical acclaim. It was a PEN/Hemingway Award Honorable Mention and a Next Pick by Indie, and it was also included in the top books' list of many literary journals like Booklist, Bookpage, and the San Francisco Chronicle.
In addition to Forgotten Country, Chung is also the author of The Tenth Muse, her breakout novel. She has received numerous awards and accolades for her work, including the National Endowment for Arts Fellowship in 2014 in Creative Writing and being recognized as one of the New Voices of the year by the Granta Magazine in 2010. Chung has a degree in mathematics from the University of Chicago and worked at a think tank in Santa Monica before going to Cornell University for her MFA. She has published work in The New York Times and Granta and is a fiction editor at Guernica Magazine. Chung currently resides in New York City.
