Catherine Marshall

Catherine Marshall is a published author of fiction, known for her powerful and inspiring stories. She was born in Birmingham and studied Literature and Theatre at North Cheshire College. Marshall began writing at the age of eleven and sold her first short stories while she was still a student. In addition to contributing short stories to various magazines, she has written and published two romantic novels, Masquerade and Excluded, as well as Still Water. She is married and has two children, and currently resides in Lancashire.

Marshall is perhaps best known for her novel Christy, which was based on the life of her mother, a teacher in poverty-stricken Tennessee. The novel was a huge success and was later adapted into a popular CBS television series. Christy's impact is still seen today, with many individuals being inspired to become teachers in underserved communities after reading the novel. Marshall's writing is known for its ability to inspire and make a difference in the lives of her readers.

In addition to her successful fiction career, Marshall has also had a successful non-fiction career. After her husband's death in 1949, she supported herself and her son by compiling and editing her husband's sermons, and then writing a national best-seller about her husband called A Man Called Peter. The 20th Century Fox movie version of the book was a box office hit and was nominated for an Academy Award. Marshall's non-fiction writing, including works like To Live Again and Meeting God at Every Turn, has earned her the title of "America's most inspirational writer" by The New York Times.

Marshall was married to Leonard LeSourd, Executive Editor of Guideposts, for many years and the two collaborated on many of her books. They also worked together on the publishing company Chosen Books. Marshall's writing career spanned four decades, reached over 30 million readers and her works have been translated into six continents. She will always be remembered for her inspiring and impactful writing.
