Cecilia Ekback was born in a small town in the northern region of Sweden, where she spent her childhood. Her parents, who originally come from Lapland, provided her with stories and traditions that were unique to the region. These early experiences and the landscape of her childhood would later become the inspiration for her writing.
After her teenage years, Ekback pursued a career in journalism and later specialized in marketing. Over the next two decades, she traveled extensively for work, living in various countries such as Russia, Germany, France, Portugal, the Middle East, and the UK. Despite this, she never lost her connection to her roots in the north of Sweden and Lapland.
In 2010, Ekback decided to focus on her passion for writing and completed a Masters in Creative Writing at Royal Holloway. She now lives in Calgary, Canada, with her husband and twin daughters. However, she still considers the landscape and characters of her childhood home as central to her writing. Ekback's experiences of growing up in the north, as well as her exposure to different cultures and landscapes throughout her career, have shaped her unique perspective and voice as a writer.
