Charles B. Fancher

Charles B. Fancher is the author of the historical novel "Red Clay," published in 2025 by Blackstone Publishing. The novel explores the final months of the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the early years of Jim Crow in the American South. His writing career follows a diverse professional background spanning journalism, public relations, and academia.

Fancher's journalism career included roles at prominent publications such as "The Philadelphia Inquirer", where he served as an editor on the Foreign and News desks and reported on higher education. He also worked at the "Detroit Free Press", holding positions including Editor of "Detroit Free Press Magazine", Deputy Business Editor, and Assistant to the Executive Editor. Earlier in his career, he was a broadcast reporter for WSM-TV (now WSMV-TV) in Nashville. Transitioning between journalism and public relations, Fancher held executive communications roles at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Philadelphia Newspapers, Inc., while also managing his own consultancy, Fancher Associates.

In academia, Fancher lectured at Howard University, coordinating the Strategic Communications sequence, and served on Temple University's adjunct faculty. A graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, he was also a recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship for Journalists. He resides in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains with his wife, Diane Brozek Fancher.
