Chris Hammer is an accomplished Australian author, who has had a successful career in journalism spanning over three decades. Hammer has worked for various prestigious media outlets, including SBS TV's Dateline, The Bulletin, and The Age. His journalism career has taken him to more than 30 countries across six continents, where he covered international affairs and Australian federal politics.
In addition to his work as a journalist, Hammer is also an award-winning author. His first book, "The River," was published in 2010 and received critical acclaim. The book won the ACT Book of the Year Award and was shortlisted for the Walkley Book Award and the Manning Clark House National Cultural Award. "The River" was Hammer's first foray into publishing, and it showcased his ability to write compelling narratives that resonate with readers.
While "The River" was a work of non-fiction, Hammer's career as a novelist began with the publication of "Scrublands" in 2018. His fiction writing, like his non-fiction, draws from his experiences as a journalist, with many of his stories set in or featuring his native land of Australia. Hammer has a Bachelor's degree in journalism from Charles Sturt University and a Master's degree in international relations from the Australian National University. He currently lives in Canberra with his wife, Dr. Tomoko Akami, and their two children.
