Christine Trent is a bestselling historical mystery author, well known for her "Lady of Ashes" historical mystery series. Her works have been translated into several languages, including Czech, Polish, and Turkish. Trent's love for books began at the tender age of three, when she drove her mother nuts by constantly asking to be read to. Eventually, her mother gave her access to her library, allowing her to read for herself. This early exposure to literature sparked a lifelong love of reading and collecting books, a passion that Trent still cherishes today.
Trent's writing career began to take shape when she was just twelve years old, and she has been writing ever since. She is the author of several series, including the "Lady of Ashes" series, which features Violet Harper, a Victorian undertaker with a passion for her macabre work. Trent's latest entry in this series is "THE DEADLY HOURS," an anthology written with Susanna Kearsley, C.S. Harris, and Anna Lee Huber, which follows the travels of a cursed pocket watch through time.
In addition to the "Lady of Ashes" series, Trent has also written the "Royal Trades" series, which features women in unusual professions. This series includes "THE QUEEN'S DOLLMAKER," a dollmaker to Marie Antoinette, "A ROYAL LIKENESS," an apprentice to the great waxworker, Madame Tussaud, and "BY THE KING'S DESIGN," a cloth merchant to the Prince Regent. These books were re-released in 2023. Trent has also written two novels featuring Florence Nightingale as an intrepid sleuth, "NO CURE FOR THE DEAD" and "A MURDEROUS MALADY."
Trent writes her novels from her home, where she has more than 4000 books that have been catalogued. She still has some of her old "Nancy Drew" novels and her copy of "The Borrowers," which she was awarded for winning a reading contest in the fourth grade. Her love for books and writing has been a constant in her life, and she continues to share her passion with readers around the world.
