Cinda Williams Chima is a bestselling American author, well-known for her work in young adult contemporary and high fantasy fiction. With a background in nutrition and clinical dietetics, Chima didn't begin her writing career until her sons were teenagers. Growing up in a family of fortune tellers, musicians, and storytellers, she was inspired to start writing romance novels as early as middle school. However, her early works were often confiscated by teachers, leaving her to wait until later in life to pursue her passion.
Chima's education includes a BA in Philosophy from the University of Akron and a post-baccalaureate and masters in Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University. Before becoming a full-time author, she worked as a clinical dietitian and filled several leadership roles in healthcare, including directing the clinical nutrition department and establishing the diabetes self-management program at The MetroHealth System in Cleveland. She also contributed to local and regional publications, focusing on health-related topics and personal essays about family life. From 2004 to 2009, she was an assistant professor of nutrition at the University of Akron.
As an author, Chima has written several successful series, including The Heir Chronicles and the Seven Realms series. Her latest series, Runestone Saga, is set to debut in November 2022 with Children of Ragnarok. This duology marries Norse mythology and witchcraft with Chima's signature blend of magic, swordplay, romance, and political intrigue. Chima's books have received critical acclaim, earning starred reviews in Kirkus and VOYA, and have been named to numerous best-of lists. She is a popular speaker at writing conferences and frequently speaks to young writers and readers at schools and libraries nationwide. Chima currently resides in North Carolina with her family and continues to work on her next novel.
