Conn Iggulden

Conn Iggulden is an English author, best known for his historical fiction and children's books. He was born in 1971 in London and attended St. Martin's School in Northwood before transferring to Merchant Taylor’s School. Iggulden has a deep appreciation for historical fiction, having been influenced by authors such as C.S. Forester, Patrick O’Brian, and David Gemmell.

Iggulden's passion for history was instilled in him at a young age by his Irish mother, who would tell him exciting stories of the past. His great-grandfather was a Seannachie, a traditional Gaelic storyteller, further fueling Iggulden's love for tales of old. Iggulden's father, who served in Bomber Command during World War II and later became a math and science teacher, also had a profound impact on him. He introduced Iggulden to poetry and inspiring stories, and instilled in him a deep appreciation for language and literature.

Before becoming a full-time writer, Iggulden worked as a teacher for seven years, eventually becoming Head of English at St. Gregory’s RC High School in London. He has great respect for those who continue to work in education and often misses the camaraderie of his colleagues. Iggulden is married and has four children, and he currently resides in Hertfordshire.

Iggulden's writing career took off with the publication of 'The Gates of Rome,' and he has since written over twenty books, including the wildly successful 'The Dangerous Book for Boys' and its sequel, 'The Double Dangerous Book for Boys.' His most recent series is set in the Athens of Pericles, demonstrating his continued commitment to exploring historical events and figures through his writing.
