Craig Thomas was a highly regarded Welsh author, best known for his thriller novels. Born in 1942, Thomas began his career as an English teacher, working in various grammar schools in the West Midlands. It was during this time that he began writing part-time, focusing on philosophical essays and the techno-thriller genre.
Thomas is perhaps most famous for his Mitchell Gant series, which includes the novel Firefox. Published in 1977, Firefox was later turned into a successful Hollywood film, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. The book is considered a classic of the techno-thriller genre and helped to establish Thomas as a leading voice in the field.
In addition to the Mitchell Gant series, Thomas wrote a number of other successful novels, including Wolfsbane, Snow Falcon, and A Different War. His writing is known for its attention to detail, particularly when it comes to technical aspects, and his ability to create tension and suspense.
Thomas was educated at Cardiff High School and graduated from University College, Cardiff in 1967 with an M.A. in English literature. He passed away on April 4, 2011 from pneumonia, following a short battle with acute myeloid leukemia. He was 68 years old.
