Cynthia Riggs is an accomplished American author, best known for her cozy mystery novels featuring the Victoria Trumbull character. Riggs was born to a family of renowned artists, with her mother being a poet and her father a printmaker. After completing high school, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geology.
Riggs has had an extensive and varied career before turning to writing. She has worked for the National Geographic Society and spent over two months in Antarctica on a job assignment. She also worked in the public relations office for the American Petroleum Institute, where she was responsible for operating charter boats. In addition, Riggs has experience in running the Chesapeake Bay Ferry Boat Company and working as a rigger at Martha's Vineyard Shipyard.
Riggs later discovered her passion for writing during her Master's program in Fine Arts and Creative Writing at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Since then, she has become a successful mystery writer, with all of her novels taking place on Martha's Vineyard and featuring local scenes and characters. As a 13th generation Islander, Riggs is well-acquainted with the Island and its residents, having been actively involved in politics and human rights causes. She is also a mother of five and a candidate for West Tisbury selectman, further demonstrating her commitment to her community.
