Ernest Victor Thompson, who writes under the name E.V. Thompson, is a prolific author of historical novels. Born in London, Thompson had a varied career before becoming a full-time writer. After spending nine years in the Navy and serving during the Korean War, he joined the Bristol police and later moved to Hong Kong and Rhodesia. It was during his time in the Navy that Thompson developed a love of traveling, which has stayed with him throughout his life.
Thompson's career as a writer began with the publication of over 200 short stories in various magazines. Eventually, he decided to pursue writing full-time and settled in Cornwall, where he has made his home. His first novel, "Chase the Wind," was published in 1977 and won the award for "The Best Historical Novel of the Year." This success set Thompson on the path to becoming a full-time author, and he has since published almost 40 novels under his name, many of which have become international best-sellers.
Thompson's novels often feature settings ranging from Cornwall, where he resides, to Europe, Africa, the Far East, and America. He has also written and presented program series for BBC Radio Cornwall and has given talks in many countries around the world. His latest novel, "Churchyard and Hawke," was published in 2009 and marked the return of Amos Hawke, a mid-19th century Cornish detective who first appeared in "Though the Heavens May Fall." Thompson's latest novel, "Beyond the Storm," set on Cornwall's rugged North Coast, was published in November 2010.
