Ed James is a successful author of crime fiction novels, hailing from Scotland. Prior to his career as a novelist, James worked in IT. It was during his time in IT that he began writing, using his commute on public transit to put his ideas into words. He now writes full-time and lives in the countryside east of Edinburgh, Scotland, with his girlfriend and many animals.
James is particularly well-known for his Scott Cullen series, which features the police procedurals of Scotland. The series is set in Edinburgh and the surrounding Lothian region, and follows the career of a young Detective Constable named Scott Cullen. Cullen starts at the bottom and works his way up the detective career ladder, investigating crimes in the city. The first book in the series, "Ghost in the Machine," was made free to download by James and has been downloaded around 400,000 times. It even made it to the top 5 novels in both Amazon UK and Amazon US. All of the novels in the Scott Cullen series were self-published by James. In addition to this series, James also publishes books under the Thomas and Mercer imprint and has released several books featuring DS Dodds based in Dundee and Detective Inspector Simon Fenchurch as the lead character.
