Ed Ruggero is a former U.S. soldier and author, who has had a successful career in both the military and writing worlds. After graduating from West Point in 1980, Ruggero served as an infantry officer in the Army and later returned to West Point to teach literature and writing. It was during his time at West Point that Ruggero had the opportunity to invite a newly famous author, Tom Clancy, to speak to his cadets. This experience had a profound impact on Ruggero and inspired him to start writing.
As an author, Ruggero is best known for writing the Eddie Harkins series of books, but his writing extends beyond just fiction. He has written both fiction and non-fiction works, with his first non-fiction book being "Duty First," a account of life at West Point. Ruggero has also written several books on leadership, including "The Leader's Compass". His first fiction novel was "38 North Yankee," which was the first of the "Mark Isen" series.
In addition to his work as an author, Ruggero has also built a business running retreats for business executives to historical sites such as Normandy and Gettysburg. These retreats use the history of famous battles and the challenges facing the commanders to help leaders better understand how to lead their modern organizations. Ruggero's interest in history and leadership has also led him to write non-fiction accounts of American paratroopers in World War Two, including "Combat Jump".
Ruggero's work has been featured on various media outlets, including CNBC, CNN, the Discovery Channel, and The History Channel. He has also spoken at the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania and the Harvard Business School. Ruggero currently spends his time between Media, Pennsylvania and Lewes, Delaware, and has served as a trustee for the Philadelphia Outward Bound School.
