Edward Cline is an American novelist and essayist, best known for his Sparrowhawk series of novels which are set in England and Virginia before the American Revolutionary War. He was born on October 22, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After completing his high school education, where he felt he learned nothing of value, Cline joined the Air Force and then pursued his ambition to become a novelist.
Cline's literary career took off with the publication of his first detective novel, First Prize, in 1988 by Mysterious Press/Warner Books. His first suspense novel, Whisper the Guns, was published in 1992 by The Atlantean Press. First Prize was later republished in 2009 by Perfect Crime. In addition to his detective and suspense novels, Cline has also written on esthetics and is a strong defender of capitalism and free speech.
Cline's Sparrowhawk series has received critical acclaim and is widely appreciated by readers who believe that American history has been abandoned or misrepresented by the government-dominated educational establishment. He is a policy analyst for the Center for the Advancement of Capitalism and writes regularly for political and cultural blog sites such as Rule of Reason and edwardcline.org.
Cline is a dedicated follower of Objectivism, the philosophy of Ayn Rand, which emphasizes reason in all matters. His best-selling novels include the popular Cyrus Skeen detective novels and the Sparrowhawk series. He currently resides in Yorktown, Virginia.
