Edwina Currie

Edwina Currie is a prominent English author and former politician who has made a significant impact in both fields. Born to Orthodox Jewish parents in Liverpool, Currie studied Chemistry at Oxford University before going on to earn a master's degree in Economic History from The London School of Economics. Growing up in a tight-knit community, Currie developed a strong sense of faith and a commitment to scholarship, which would later serve as the foundation for her writing and political career.

As a young adult, Currie was inspired by Marie Curie's legacy of scientific achievement and intellectual curiosity. She chose to study Chemistry at Oxford, but later switched to Economics, Philosophy, and Politics, reflecting her growing interest in political affairs. While at Oxford, Currie was an active participant in the Oxford Union debates and held various leadership positions in student organizations. Despite her passion for politics, Currie initially pursued a career as an accountant in London after graduation.

In addition to her work as an author, Currie has had a successful career in politics, serving as a Member of Parliament for 14 years and holding a position in Margaret Thatcher's government in the Department of Health. She has been recognized for her contributions to public service, receiving the Speaker of the Year award in 1990 and being named Campaigner of the Year in 1994. After leaving public office, Currie turned her attention to media work, becoming a radio and TV presenter/performer for the BBC.

Throughout her career, Currie has been known for her outspoken and opinionated personality, which has made her a controversial figure at times. However, her strong sense of community, faith, and commitment to scholarship have remained constant, and are reflected in her writing and public service. As an author, Currie has written both fiction and non-fiction books, drawing on her diverse experiences and insights to create engaging and thought-provoking works.
