Elisabetta Dami is an Italian author, best known for her children's book series, Geronimo Stilton. She was born in Milan in 1958 and is the daughter of publisher Piero Dami, who founded Dami Editore in 1972. Dami began her career in the publishing world as a proofreader at her father's company, where she discovered her passion for writing.
Dami's work as a volunteer for sick children served as a significant source of inspiration for her. This experience led her to create her most famous character, Geronimo Stilton, a mouse who embarks on thrilling adventures. The Geronimo Stilton series has been translated into 35 languages and has sold over 65 million copies worldwide. Interestingly, Dami is not credited by name on the cover of her books, which is a testament to the global appeal of her character.
In addition to writing, Dami is also a co-owner of Edizioni Piemme, an Italian publishing company. She has written over 100 books, many of which feature characters from the Geronimo Stilton universe. Her other notable works include books featuring Thea Stilton and the Thea Sisters, a group of mouse characters that include Colette, Nicky, Pamela, Paulina, and Violet.
Dami's love for adventure and exploration is evident in her writing. She began traveling at the age of 23, and her experiences around the world have inspired many of her stories. She has visited places such as Alaska, Easter Island, Zambia, and Kilimanjaro, and has even completed a 75-mile marathon in the Sahara Desert. Dami divides her time between Italy and Sedona, Arizona, and in addition to writing and traveling, she enjoys parachute jumping and has earned a pilot's license. She continues to write and publish books, with a focus on creating engaging and exciting stories for children.
