Elizabeth Zelvin

Elizabeth Zelvin is a bestselling author, known for her works in the historical fiction, paranormal, and mystery genres. She is particularly famous for her Bruce Kohler mystery series, which has gained her nominations for the Agatha Award and the Derringer Award. In addition to her work as an author, Zelvin is also a psychotherapist based in New York City.

Zelvin's literary career has seen her nominated for the Agatha Award three times and the Derringer Award twice, all in the category of Best Short Story. Her novels, Journey of Strangers and Voyage of Strangers, have been well-received in the historical fiction genre. Zelvin's writing has been featured in various literary magazines, including the Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, Murder New York Style, Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, and Mysterical-E. One of her stories was included in the list of Best American Mystery Stories of 2014 by Otto Penzler.

In addition to her written work, Zelvin is also a singer-songwriter and has released an original songs' CD called Outrageous Older Women. She is currently working on the development of her third historical book, Kingdom of Strangers. Zelvin has been a writer all her life, having graduated magna cum laude from Brandeis University and then serving as a volunteer for the Peace Corps in Cote D'Ivoire, West Africa. She later earned her master's degree in social work and worked as a psychotherapist in private practice.

Zelvin is the author of the Bruce Kohler Mysteries and the Jewish historical Mendoza Family Saga. She also writes urban fantasy about Jewish country artist and shapeshifter Emerald Love. Her latest entry on Kindle is a new Bruce Kohler collection (#11), DEATH WILL HELP YOU IMAGINE PLUS TWO. She is the editor of two anthologies, ME TOO SHORT STORIES and WHERE CRIME NEVER SLEEPS. Liz's stories have been nominated three times each for the Agatha and Derringer Awards for Best Short Story. Another story was listed in BEST AMERICAN MYSTERIES 2014.

As a psychotherapist, Zelvin has been a pioneer in online mental health for over twenty years before the pandemic. In addition to her work as an author and psychotherapist, she is also a singer-songwriter, with an album of original songs titled OUTRAGEOUS OLDER WOMAN. Zelvin is also a poet with two published books of poetry, a former Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa, and grandma to two absolutely splendid granddaughters. She is a lifelong New Yorker who takes lots of photos in Central Park and puts them on Facebook.
