Ellen Schreiber is a successful American author, best known for her young adult fantasy novels. She is particularly famous for her Vampire Kisses series. Prior to her career as a writer, Schreiber was an actress and a stand-up comedian. She attended a local university, majoring in theatre and later studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. After her return from London, she moved to Chicago where she became involved in improv, Shakespeare, comedies, and dramas, and even sang and danced on a cruise boat. She also performed in a two-woman show and did stand-up comedy. It was during this time that she began to write an adult novel about a rock star.
Schreiber's writing career took off when she was flying to LA and her brother, Mark Schreiber, handed her a young adult book to read. This inspired her to start writing young adult novels herself. She wrote her first young adult novel, Johnny Lightning, which was later published in Dutch in Belgium. In 2001, HarperCollins published Teenage Mermaid, and also bought the rights to Vampire Kisses and Comedy Girl. Since then, Vampire Kisses, Teenage Mermaid, and My Mother, The Clown have been published by Facet in Belgium and Johnny Lightning has been published in Germany by Ravensburger. Vampire Kisses 2 - Kissing Coffins and Vampire Kisses 3 - Vampireville have also been published, and she is currently working on Vampire Kisses 4.
