Emma Styles

Emma Styles is an Australian author who has made a name for herself in the world of contemporary Australian noir. Her writing focuses on young women challenging the patriarchy, and her debut novel, "No Country for Girls," has received significant critical acclaim. Styles grew up on Whadjuk Noongar Country in Perth, Western Australia, and currently resides in London, where she was born.

Styles is no stranger to adventure, having once sat out a cyclone on the northwest coast of WA in a LandCruiser Troop Carrier. She has a love for road trips and has spent her teens and twenties learning skills such as skiing, snowboarding, horseback riding, and motorcycle and small aircraft operation. Despite her love for adventure, Styles is less afraid of great white sharks than she should be and admits to being hopeless at surfing.

"No Country for Girls" was awarded the Little Brown UEA Crime Fiction Award in 2020 and was chosen by Val McDermid to feature in her New Blood panel for outstanding debut novelists at the 2022 Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate. The novel was also a pick for Val McDermid's New Blood in 2022 and was longlisted for the CWA New Blood Dagger and Author's Club Best First Novel Award in 2023. Styles has an MA in crime fiction from the University of East Anglia, which has undoubtedly contributed to her success as a crime fiction author.
