Eric Saward

Eric Saward is a British writer best known for his contributions to "Doctor Who" during the 1980s, both as a scriptwriter and script editor. He penned several notable serials, including "Attack of the Cybermen" and "Revelation of the Daleks," showcasing his affinity for the Cybermen and Daleks as recurring adversaries. His work often featured dynamic action sequences and explored the Doctor's connection to pivotal moments in Earth's history. Beyond television, Saward expanded the "Doctor Who" universe through prose and audio, writing the short story "Birth of a Renegade" and the radio play "Slipback."

Saward served as script editor for "Doctor Who" from the serial "Time-Flight" until the penultimate episode of season 23, "The Ultimate Foe." His tenure ended abruptly due to creative disagreements with producer John Nathan-Turner, particularly regarding the conclusion of the season's finale. Following his departure, Saward publicly criticized Nathan-Turner's decisions, including Colin Baker's casting as the Sixth Doctor. Despite these conflicts, his contributions to the franchise endured, with his novelizations of his Dalek stories finally published in 2019 after decades of unresolved rights issues. His adaptation of "Attack of the Cybermen" was released in 1989, years after his exit from the production team.
