Erin Khar

Erin Khar is an author and advocate who has made a significant impact in the fields of addiction, recovery, mental health, parenting, and relationships. She has personal experience with the challenges of addiction recovery, which has lent her a unique perspective and authenticity in her writing on the subject. Khar's writing has been praised for its honesty and ability to shed light on the larger opiate crisis, with the intention of destigmatizing drug addiction.

Khar's debut memoir, "Strung Out," explores her fifteen-year battle with opiate addiction. The book has received critical acclaim, appearing on most anticipated lists from Apple Books, Goodreads, SELF, The Rumpus, Bitch Media, and others. The New York Times has written that "Khar’s buoyant writing doesn’t get mired in her dark subject matter. There is an honesty here that can only come from, to put it in the language of 12-step programs, a 'searching and fearless moral inventory.' This is a story she needed to tell; and the rest of the country needs to listen.”

In addition to her memoir, Khar writes a weekly advice column, Ask Erin, on Substack, and has published personal essays in a variety of prominent publications, including SELF, Marie Claire, Salon, The Times of London Sunday Magazine, HuffPost, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, and others. She has established herself as a respected voice in the national conversation about the overdose epidemic and has used her platform to advocate for those struggling with addiction. Khar currently resides in New York City.
