Evelyn Anthony, the pen name of Evelyn Bridgett Patricia Stephens Ward-Thomas, was a British author renowned for her historical fiction, espionage thrillers, and suspense novels. She gained early acclaim with works such as "Valentia" and "Far Flies the Eagle," both set against Napoleon's invasion of Russia. Over her prolific career, she wrote numerous standalone novels as well as series, including the Romanov Trilogy, the MacDonald series, and the Davina Graham espionage novels. Her ability to blend historical detail with gripping narratives established her as a versatile and compelling storyteller.

Beginning her career with historical fiction, Anthony later transitioned to contemporary thrillers, often incorporating espionage themes. Her writing was marked by meticulous research and a talent for weaving intricate plots. Beyond her literary achievements, she led a notable personal life, marrying Michael Ward-Thomas after meeting him at The Dorchester. The couple lived in Horham Hall, which they initially sold due to financial constraints but later repurchased as her writing success grew. In 1994, Anthony made history as the first woman in over 700 years to serve as High Sheriff of Essex.

Anthony faced profound personal challenges, including the loss of her daughter Kitty in 1995, which halted her writing for seven years. She resumed her career before her husband's death in 2004. Survived by five children and 16 grandchildren, Evelyn Anthony left behind a legacy of captivating novels that spanned genres and captivated readers worldwide. Her works remain celebrated for their depth, suspense, and historical richness.
