Μ.M. Crumley's passion for stories, fiction, myths, and legends started at a young age. As a child, she enjoyed losing herself in a world where magic and heroes were an integral part of the narrative. This fascination with imaginative tales led her to write her first story featuring Doc Holliday as an immortal for a college writing class in 2004. Since then, she has been captivated by the historical figure and has been "following him around" in her writing, attempting to capture the essence of his complex personality.

Crumley's characters, including Doc Holliday, are more than just figments of her imagination; she sees them as real, three-dimensional beings who demand their stories be told. She feels a strong commitment to her characters and believes that turning away from them would result in relentless haunting. Her dedication to her creations drives her to chase after them and document their every word.

Fascinated by the pervasive themes and repeated ideas found in stories across different cultures, Crumley wonders if there truly is a collective consciousness. She sees fiction as a powerful tool for conveying truths and insights, which can be discovered in unexpected places like cartoons, songs, and stories about a boy and his horse. Crumley views storytellers as the oldest officeholders on Earth, believing they have the power to carry truths or lies, help or hurt, and ultimately affect the world's reality through their words.
