M.W. Gordon is a well-known author who has had a varied career before turning to writing full-time. He spent several decades teaching law and was a prolific writer during that time, authoring numerous articles and books. His teaching career saw him visiting various institutions, including the London School of Economics, Universidade Catolica Portuguesa, the University of Alabama, and George Washington University, among others. He was also a visiting professor at several universities in Europe and Latin America, and was a Scholar-in-Residence at the Bellagio Center in Italy.
After retiring from teaching, Gordon embarked on a new adventure as a fly fishing guide. He built a wooden drift-boat named Osprey and began spending his time on the salt-marsh flats below St. Augustine, Florida, as well as the creeks and rivers of Wyoming and Montana. His love for fly fishing goes back to his childhood in West Hartford, Connecticut, where he fished and tied flies for sale in a local sporting goods store. Gordon's dedication to the sport is evident in his commitment to catch and release and the use of barbless hooks.
In addition to his work as a fly fishing guide, Gordon has also been involved in rescue efforts on the water. In 2011, he rescued a family of six after their overloaded drift boat crashed into trees and sank on the Snake River in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He has also worked with Project Healing Waters in Montana, teaching fly casting and taking combat-wounded disabled-vets fly fishing on the Yellowstone River. Gordon currently lives in Summer Haven, south of St. Augustine, with his author-wife Buff and their Sheltie, Macduff.
