Maddie Dawson

Maddie Dawson is a bestselling literary fiction author, known for her engaging novels about love, families, secrets, and happiness. Dawson grew up in the South, surrounded by a family of storytellers who believed in the power of exaggerated and outlandish tales. These storytellers, who claimed their stories were absolute truth, shared accounts of shotgun weddings, drunken funerals, love lives, and even resurrected dead people. This upbringing instilled in Dawson a deep appreciation for the art of storytelling, making it no surprise that she would eventually become a writer.

Before becoming an author, Dawson held various jobs, including working as an electrocardiogram technician, substitute English teacher, daycare worker, department store clerk, nanny, medical records typist, and wedding invitation company receptionist. She considers her time working for a psychiatrist, typing up case notes, as the best job she ever had. The psychiatrist's stories provided her with a wealth of content that she could use in her future novels.

After earning a minor in journalism and an English degree, Dawson pursued a career in magazine writing and column-writing, which she found to be more enjoyable than the world of newspapers and hard news. Throughout her career, she continued to develop her writing skills and nurture her love for storytelling. Eventually, she published her first novel, "What Comes After Crazy," under the name Sandi Kahn Shelton. Since then, she has written ten more novels, including "The Magic of Found Objects," "Matchmaking for Beginners," and "SNAP OUT OF IT," which was released in January 2023.
