Maile Meloy

Maile Meloy is an acclaimed American author, known for her works in the fantasy, adventure, and literary fiction genres. She has gained recognition through the publication of her short stories in esteemed outlets such as The New Yorker and The Paris Review. Meloy's collection of short stories, "Half in Love," earned her the Rosenthal Foundation Award and the John C. Zacharis Award. Her exceptional writing has also been acknowledged with the Aga Khan Prize for Fiction and a Guggenheim Fellowship.

Born in Helena, Montana, on January 1, 1972, Meloy spent her formative years in her native state and continued her education at Harvard College, graduating in 1994. She furthered her studies at the California University, Irvine, where she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree. Meloy's writing career took off in 2002, and she has since focused on fiction, with some forays into short fiction. Her achievements have placed her among Granta's list of 21 Best Young American Authors.

Some of Meloy's notable works include "Liars and Saints" and "A Family Daughter," as well as story collections like "Half in Love" and "Both Ways Is the Only Way I Want It," the latter of which was named one of the Ten Best Books of the Year by the New York Times Book Review. She is also the author of the award-winning Apothecary trilogy for young readers. Her latest novel for adults, "Do Not Become Alarmed," was published in June 2017. Meloy's exceptional storytelling abilities and diverse body of work have solidified her position as a prominent figure in American literature.
