Malcolm Archibald

Malcolm Archibald is a historical mystery, fantasy, and historical fiction author who hails from the enchanting city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Growing up, Archibald was heavily influenced by his family's military tradition, his Jacobite grandmother's love for books and business, and his grandfather's stories from the mystical island of Arran. These diverse influences, along with his hometown's rich history of legends, murders, and ghosts, inspired him to become an author. As a child, Archibald spent much of his free time exploring hidden alleyways and dark roads, and later, he would deepen his knowledge of the country through various jobs. He now lives in Inverness with his wife, where he writes his novels.

Archibald is primarily interested in historical fiction and non-fiction, but he also enjoys works by Jane Austen, Rudyard Kipling, and J.K. Rowling. He has been relatively quiet on writing platforms but intends to become more active in the future. Archibald has had a successful writing career, having won the Dundee International Book Prize for his novel 'Whales for the Wizard' in 2005 and the People's Book Prize for 'The Darkest Walk' in 2011. In 2021, his 18th century military novel 'Blood Oath' won the military fiction prize awarded by the Society for Army Historical Research. Archibald is married with three grown children and currently resides just outside Dundee in eastern Scotland.
