Marcial Gala

Marcía Gala is a Cuban novelist, poet, and architect born in Havana in 1965. A member of Cuba’s Union of Writers and Artists (UNEAC), he has garnered critical acclaim for his literary works, including winning the Pinos Nuevos Award for short stories in 1999. His novel "La Catedral de los Negros" earned him the prestigious Alejo Carpentier Award in 2012, as well as the Critics' Award for best book published in Cuba that year.

Gala's writing spans multiple genres, blending historical depth with lyrical prose. His novel "Intensos Compromisos con la Nada" further solidified his reputation, winning the Premio Ñ in 2018. Known for his evocative storytelling and exploration of cultural and existential themes, Gala’s works reflect his multifaceted background in literature and architecture. He divides his time between Buenos Aires and Cienfuegos, continuing to contribute to contemporary Cuban literature.
