Marcie R. Rendon is an accomplished author who is also a proud member of the White Earth Anishinabe Nation. She is a mother and a grandmother, and her personal experiences and cultural background often influence her writing. In addition to being a writer, Rendon is also a performance artist and has been recognized for her contributions to the arts and her community. She has been named as a change-maker by POLLEN and MN AARP as part of their '50 over 50' group.
Rendon has received numerous awards and accolades for her work. She is a recipient of the Loft's Inroads Writers of Color Award for Native Americans, and she has studied under Anishinabe author Jim Northrup. Her first children's book, Pow Wow Summer, was published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press in 2014. Her debut novel, Murder on the Red River, was published in 2017 and went on to receive the Pinckley Women's Debut Crime Novel Award. It was also a finalist for the Western Writers of America Spur Award in the Contemporary Novel category.
In addition to her work as a writer, Rendon is also an accomplished performance artist and has curated community-created performing arts. She has received a McKnight Distinguished Artist Award and has been included in O: The Oprah Magazine's list of 31 Native American Authors to Read Right Now. Her script, Say Their Names, will be produced by Out of Hand Theater in Atlanta, GA, and her script, Sweet Revenge, had a staged reading at the Playwright Center in Minneapolis, MN. Rendon is also the creative mind behind Raving Native Theater and curated TwinCities Public Television's Art Is...CreativeNativeResilience. She has also received the Loft's Spoken Word Immersion Fellowship for work with incarcerated women.
