Margaret George

Margaret George is a highly respected American author, best known for her historical novels that provide a unique window into the past. She has a special talent for creating epic biographies of significant historical figures, blending authenticity with directness in a manner that is both engaging and informative. George's personal experiences and family history often find their way into her writing, giving it an intimate style that sets her apart from her peers.

Born to a father in the U.S. diplomatic service, George spent her early years traveling the world, living in places such as Taiwan, Tel Aviv, Bonn, Berlin, and Washington D.C. Her love for reading and writing began in Israel, where she started keeping land tortoises as pets and developed an affinity for animals and nature. This interest led her to pursue a double major in English literature and biology at Tufts University, followed by an MA in ecology from Stanford University. George's background in science, combined with her passion for literature, would later prove invaluable in her writing career.

After working as a science writer at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, George continued to write, focusing on one project at a time. She penned what she refers to as her 'Ayn Rand/adventure novel' in college and her 'Sex and the City' novel in Washington D.C. It was in St. Louis that she first got the idea of writing a 'psycho-biography' of Henry VIII, which eventually became her groundbreaking novel, THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF HENRY VIII. This book, along with her other works, such as MARY QUEEN OF SCOTLAND AND THE ISLES, THE MEMOIRS OF CLEOPATRA, MARY CALLED MAGDALENE, HELEN OF TROY, and ELIZABETH I, have all been bestsellers, with twenty-one foreign translations.

George's meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy have earned her a reputation as a master of historical fiction. Her books, including the upcoming THE CONFESSIONS OF YOUNG NERO, provide readers with an immersive experience, transporting them back in time to walk alongside some of history's most fascinating figures. Living in Madison, Wisconsin, and Washington D.C., George continues to write, drawing inspiration from her rich life experiences and insatiable curiosity about the past.
