Margaret Stohl is a highly accomplished American author, known for her work in young adult novels, video games, and comics. She was born in California in 1967 and went on to obtain a M.A. degree from Stanford University, where she also worked as a teaching assistant in Romantic Poetry. Stohl's academic background, which includes studying creative writing at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, has greatly contributed to her success as an author.
Stohl is perhaps best known for co-authoring the Beautiful Creatures fantasy series with Kami Garcia, which secured several awards including NYPL Book of the Teenage, YALSA Teen Top Ten Pick, and #1 Teen Pick from Amazon in 2009. In addition to her work with Garcia, Stohl has also authored the Icons series and contributed to the Marvel's Black Widow novels. She has written for various video games, including Spider-Man, Fantasy Four, and Dune 2000. Currently, Stohl is a Narrative Director at Bungie.
Stohl's writing has garnered her numerous accolades and widespread recognition. She is a #1 New York Times, PW, USA Today, LA Times, and Internationally bestselling author, with her books being published in 37 languages and 48 countries. Her work on Beautiful Creatures led to the series being adapted into a film by Warner Brothers and Alcon Entertainment. Stohl's latest book, CATS VS ROBOTS: THIS IS WAR, was written with her husband, Lewis Peterson, and illustrated by their child, Kay Peterson.
In addition to her writing, Stohl is also passionate about literacy outreach. She co-founded YALLFEST (Charleston, SC) and YALLWEST (Santa Monica, CA), two of the biggest kid/teen book festivals in the country. Stohl currently resides in Santa Monica, CA with her husband, daughters, and dogs.
