Marian Keyes

Marian Keyes is a renowned Irish author, best known for her contributions to the genres of chick lit and women's fiction. She is the author of the Walsh Family series, which explores complex and difficult themes such as domestic violence, drug abuse, mental illness, divorce, and alcoholism. Keyes has received significant recognition for her work, including the Irish Book Awards.

Growing up in Ireland, Keyes moved to London in 1986 to take an administrative job. During this time, she struggled with depression and alcoholism, which eventually led to a suicide attempt in 1995. It was during her rehabilitation that she began writing, initially submitting short stories to a publisher before being encouraged to write a full-length novel.

Keyes' writing focuses primarily on women's literature, and she has gained international fame for her novels Watermelon, Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married, and This Charming Man. Her books have been translated into 32 languages and have sold over 22 million copies worldwide. In addition to her fiction work, Keyes has also published two collections of journalism, Making it up as I Go Along and Under the Duvet: Deluxe Edition.

Born on September 10, 1963, in Limerick, Ireland, Keyes spent much of her childhood in Monktown. She obtained a law degree from Dublin University and began working in an administrative job before moving to London in 1986. It was during this period that she developed an addiction to alcohol and became a patient of clinical depression, leading to her suicide attempt in 1995. It was during her rehabilitation that she discovered her passion for writing, which has since become her successful career.
