Marina Lewycka

Marina Lewycka is a renowned literary fiction author of Ukrainian origin, currently residing in the United Kingdom. She was born in a refugee camp in Kiel, Germany in 1946, shortly after the end of World War II. Despite being born in Germany, Lewycka has little recollection of her early years, as she was very young when her family moved to England.

Lewycka is not only a successful novelist but also a respected lecturer and advocate for the elderly. She received her education at Keele University and currently works as a lecturer in media studies at Sheffield Hallam University in England. In addition to her fiction, Lewycka has written several practical guides for carers of elderly people, published by the charity Age Concern. These guides demonstrate her commitment to improving the lives of older adults and their caregivers.

Throughout her career, Lewycka has used her writing to explore themes of family, culture, and identity. Her work often draws from her personal experiences as a person of Ukrainian descent living in the United Kingdom. Her unique perspective and storytelling abilities have earned her a place as one of the most respected literary voices in the UK today.
