Marion Chesney, born on June 10th, 1936, in Glasgow, Scotland, is a highly respected fiction author who has blessed the literary world with an extensive range of novels over the years. She is perhaps best known for her work under the pen name M.C. Beaton, although she has also published under several other pseudonyms, including Ann Fairfax, Jennie Tremaine, Helen Crampton, Charlotte Ward, and Sarah Chester.

Before becoming a successful author, Chesney had a varied career path. She started her first job as a bookseller in charge of the fiction department in John Smith & Sons Ltd. She and her husband later moved to the Cotswolds, where Agatha Raisin was born.
