Matthew Quick is an accomplished American author, well-known for his works in fiction aimed at both adults and young adults. Born in Philadelphia on October 23, 1973, Quick developed a passion for literature during his school days. He completed his high school education at Collingswood High School in Oaklyn, New Jersey, before attending La Salle University for his undergraduate degree in English literature and secondary education. Quick later went on to obtain his Masters degree in Fine Arts from Goddard College.
After completing his education, Quick worked as a high school teacher in Haddonfield Memorial High School, New Jersey, where he also took on the roles of part-time soccer and basketball coach. He was known to provide counseling to troubled teens, utilizing his extensive knowledge in literature. It was after many years of teaching that Quick decided to leave his profession and focus on his writing career. He lived with his wife, Alicia Bessette, a pianist, in Massachusetts for several years before moving to Beaufort, South Carolina.
Quick's works have gained significant recognition and acclaim. His debut novel, The Silver Linings Playbook, became a New York Times bestseller and was adapted into an Oscar-winning film. In total, Quick has written nine novels, including We Are the Light, which was a #1 Indie Next Pick and a Book of the Month selection. His work has been translated into over thirty languages, and he has received several accolades, including a PEN/Hemingway Award Honorable Mention, an LA Times Book Prize finalist, a New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice, and a #1 bestseller in Brazil. Quick has also been named one of Hollywood's 25 Most Powerful Authors by The Hollywood Reporter.
