Megan Abbott

Megan Abbott is a distinguished American author, well-known for her crime fiction novels. Born in the Detroit area, she grew up watching movies from the 1930s and 1940s, which may have influenced her interest in crime fiction. Abbott has a Ph.D. in English and American literature from New York University and is married to Joshua Gaylord.

Abbott was born in 1971 and grew up in suburban Detroit. She graduated from the University of Michigan and later pursued her Ph.D. in literature from New York University. Abbott has since become a teacher, working at New York University and the State University of New York. In 2013-2014, she served as the John Grisham Writer in Residence at the University of Mississippi. Abbott has written some of the best crime fiction novels of all time, and she cites Jeffery Eugenides' book "The Virgin Suicides" as a major motivation and inspiration. She is also fond of film noir and classic noir fiction.

In addition to her work as a novelist, Abbott has written columns and novels for newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times. She has also written blogs, often collaborating with another famous author, Sara Gran. Abbott's writing has appeared in several publications, including the New York Times, the Guardian, the Wall Street Journal, and the Los Angeles Times Magazine. She is the author of a nonfiction book, "The Street Was Mine: White Masculinity in Hardboiled Fiction and Film Noir," and the editor of "A Hell of a Woman," an anthology of female crime fiction. Currently, Abbott is working on developing two of her novels, "Dare Me" and "The Fever," for television. She is also a staff writer on HBO's "The Deuce."
