Megan E. Freeman

Megan E. Freeman is a respected author and educator, with a passion for writing that was ignited in her childhood. She was fortunate enough to attend an elementary school where poets regularly visited her classroom to teach poetry, and this experience had a profound impact on her. From that point on, Freeman knew that she wanted to be a writer.

Freeman's debut middle grade novel, ALONE, has received numerous accolades, including the Colorado Book Award, the NCTE Notable Novels in Verse distinction, and a finalist spot in the Goodreads Choice Awards. The book has also been included on over a dozen Best Of and state reading lists. In addition to her work as a novelist, Freeman is also an accomplished poet, with a Pushcart Prize nomination and a published poetry chapbook, Lessons on Sleeping Alone, to her name.

In addition to her work as an author, Freeman is also a highly regarded teacher, with decades of experience in the classroom. She has taught multiple subjects across the arts and humanities to students ranging from kindergarten to graduate school. Freeman is nationally recognized for her work leading workshops and speaking to audiences across the country. She has received numerous awards for her teaching, including the Impact on Education Award, and is a fellow with the Colorado State University Writing Project and the Fund for Teachers. Freeman is also a member of several prestigious organizations, including the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Northern Colorado Writers, Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, Columbine Poets of Colorado, and Lighthouse Writers Workshop. She is also a member of the Colorado Poets Center.

Freeman has lived in a variety of places throughout her life, including northeast Los Angeles, central Ohio, northern Norway, and on Caribbean cruise ships. She now resides in northern Colorado.
