Megan McDonald is a well-known American author of children's books. She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as the youngest of five sisters. Growing up, McDonald often found it difficult to get a word in edgewise amidst the lively conversations and storytelling at the dinner table. This experience inspired her to begin writing things down, eventually leading her to become the acclaimed author she is today. McDonald earned her Bachelor's degree from Oberlin College and her Master's of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She then went on to work as a children's librarian at several different libraries.
McDonald is best known for her series of books featuring Judy Moody, a third-grade girl. The series is written for grades three and four and has gained significant popularity among young readers. In addition to the Judy Moody series, McDonald has written numerous picture books for younger children and has also created the Stink series, which follows the adventures of Judy Moody's little brother. The author's love for storytelling and her experience as a children's librarian have given her a unique perspective on what children want and need in a book.
Critically acclaimed, the Judy Moody books have won numerous awards, including a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year and an International Reading Association Children's Choice. McDonald's writing has been praised for its humor, relatability, and strong character development. With nearly 3 million Judy Moody books in print, the series has become a beloved staple in children's literature. McDonald continues to write, drawing inspiration from her own childhood experiences and the world around her. She currently lives in Sebastopol, California, with her husband and a menagerie of animals.
