Michael Gregorio is the pen name of a writing duo consisting of Daniela De Gregorio and Michael G. Jacob. The two have been together for over thirty-six years and currently reside in Spoleto, a small town in central Italy. Daniela, who was born in Spoleto, teaches philosophy and history, while Michael, who hails from Liverpool, UK, used to teach English and the history of photography.
The writing duo's debut novel, "Critique of Criminal Reason," was published in 2006 and set in French-occupied East Prussia during the winter of 1804. The novel, which features a young magistrate named Hanno Stiffeniis, was a critical and commercial success, translated into 22 languages and declared one of the 20 best books of 2006 by Playboy magazine. The novel was followed by "Days of Atonement" in 2007 and "A Visible Darkness" in 2009, both of which also feature Hanno Stiffeniis and have received starred reviews from Publishers' Weekly.
In addition to their success as novelists, Daniela and Michael have also been recognized for their contributions to their local community. In 2017, they were awarded an Umbria de Del Cuore for their cultural and social engagement in Spoleto.
