Michael Prescott is a successful American author, known for his horror, suspense, and crime fiction novels. Prescott was born in Passaic, New Jersey, and spent his formative years in the same state. After graduating from Wesleyan University in 1980 with a focus on Film Studies, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the industry.
Prescott's career took various turns as he worked as a freelance magazine writer, editor, archival researcher, and even wrote scripts for independent film producers. However, his true passion lay in writing novels. After five years of hard work, he finally published his debut horror novel in 1986. This marked the beginning of his successful career as a novelist, and he went on to write under different pen names, including Brian Harper and Douglas Borton.
Douglas Borton, one of Prescott's pen names, grew up in New Jersey and attended Wesleyan University. After moving to Los Angeles, he pursued a career as a screenwriter, working with several independent producers before turning to writing novels. Borton has published 25 thrillers, beginning with horror novels in the 1980s and continuing with suspense and crime novels in the 1990s and beyond. His latest book, Bad to the Bone (2015), is a sequel to Blood in the Water (2014).
Prescott's career experienced a significant turning point in 2007 when he found himself out of work in traditional publishing. On a whim, he began releasing his older titles and new novels in ebook form, which proved to be a successful move. By 2011, he had become one of the bestselling ebook writers in the United States, with sales of roughly four million books (both print and digital). His latest full-length thriller is TEARS FOR THE DEAD, the fifth entry in a continuing series that includes COLD AROUND THE HEART, BLOOD IN THE WATER, BAD TO THE BONE, and SKIN IN THE GAME.
