Mike Curato

Mike Curato is a Filipino-American author and illustrator best known for his critically acclaimed "Little Elliot" series, featuring a polka-dotted elephant. His debut title, "Little Elliot, Big City," was published in 2014 and became the first of five books in the series, which includes "Little Elliot, Big Family," "Little Elliot, Big Fun," "Little Elliot, Fall Friends," and "Merry Christmas, Little Elliot." The series has been translated into over ten languages and earned numerous awards, including the Society of Illustrators Original Art Show Founder's Award. Publishers Weekly recognized Curato as a "Fall 2014 Flying Start" for his breakout success.

Born and raised near New York City, Curato studied illustration at Syracuse University before working as a graphic designer in Seattle. His career shifted when he secured a three-book deal with Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, launching his "Little Elliot" series. Beyond his own works, he has illustrated titles such as "What If..." by Samantha Berger, "All the Way to Havana" by Margarita Engle, and "Worm Loves Worm" by J.J. Austrian. In 2020, he expanded into young adult literature with his graphic novel "Flamer," while also publishing "The Power of One," a collaboration with Trudy Ludwig. Curato currently resides in Brooklyn, continuing to create stories that resonate with readers of all ages.
