Mike Thomas is a Welsh author who was born in 1971 in the town of Caerphilly, which is known for its famous comedian Tommy Cooper, its salty cheese, and a castle with a tower that has a sharper angle than the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Thomas spent over two decades serving in the police, working in some of Cardiff's busiest neighborhoods in uniform, public order units, drugs teams, and CID. He left the force in 2015 to focus on writing full-time.
Thomas's debut novel, Pocket Notebook, was published by William Heinemann, a division of Penguin Random House, and was longlisted for the Wales Book of the Year. He was also recognized as one of Waterstones' "New Voices" for 2010. His second novel, Ugly Bus, is currently in development for a six-part television series with the BBC. Thomas's writing is influenced by his police career, and his novels provide a gritty and realistic portrayal of life on the front lines of law enforcement.
The first novel in the MacReady series, Ash and Bones, was published in August 2016 by Bonnier Zaffre. The sequel, Unforgivable, was released in July 2017. Thomas's writing is highly regarded, and his novels have been praised for their fast-paced plots, complex characters, and sharp dialogue. He currently lives in the wilds of Portugal with his wife and two children, where he continues to write and develop new ideas for novels and television shows.
