Moisés Naim

Μoisés Naím is an internationally-syndicated columnist and best-selling author, who has made significant contributions to the fields of economics, social studies, and international affairs. He was born in Tripoli, Libya, on May 7, 1952. Naím has been recognized as one of the world's leading thinkers by Prospect Magazine and has been ranked among the top 100 global thought leaders by the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute of Switzerland.

Throughout his career, Naím has authored fifteen books, including some influential titles such as "Paper Tigers and Minotaurs: The Politics of Venezuela's Economic Reforms," "Altered States: Globalization, Sovereignty and Governance," "Illicit: How Smugglers, Traffickers and Copycats Are Hijacking the Global Economy," and "The End of Power: From Boardrooms to Battlefields and Churches to States, Why Being in Charge Isn't What It Used to Be." In 2013, "The End of Power" was recognized as one of the best books of the year by both the Washington Post and the Financial Times. Recently, Naím published his first novel, "Two Spies in Caracas."

In 2011, Naím launched "Efecto Naím," an innovative weekly television program that highlights surprising world trends using visually-striking videos, graphics, and interviews with world leaders. The program is widely watched in Latin America. Previously, Naím served as the editor-in-chief of Foreign Policy magazine for fourteen years, transforming it into a modern, award-winning publication on global politics and economics. Under his leadership, the magazine won the National Magazine Award for General Excellence three times and became one of the world's most influential publications in international affairs.

Naím has an extensive background in public service, having served as Venezuela's minister of trade and industry, director of Venezuela’s Central Bank, and executive director of the World Bank. He holds MSc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has been a Professor and Dean of IESA, Venezuela’s main business school. Naím currently resides in Washington, D.C., with his family.
