Mons Kallentoft is a renowned Swedish author, best known for his Scandinavian crime fiction novels. He was born on April 15, 1968, in Linkoping, Sweden, and was raised in the provincial town of Ljungsbro. Growing up in a working-class home, books were a rare phenomenon in his household. Instead, Kallentoft spent his time playing football and ice hockey. It wasn't until he was bedridden due to a severe sports injury at the age of fourteen that he discovered literature, which opened up a whole new world to him, with authors like Kafka, Hemingway, and George Orwell making a significant impact on him.
Before becoming an author, Kallentoft worked in the advertising business and journalism, and he also spent some time in the shady side of Madrid. His debut novel, "Pesetas," took place in the Spanish capital among cocaine dealers and bankrobbers, and it was well-received, earning him the Swedish equivalent of the Whitbread Award. After his successful debut, Kallentoft wrote a few more critically acclaimed novels, including "Marbella Club" and "Attractive, Healthy & Spontaneous," as well as a travelogue/food essay titled "Food Noir."
Later, Kallentoft decided to put his unique spin on the classic Scandinavian crime novel, which proved to be a successful move. The first book in his Malin Fors series received unanimous praise from national critics and became a bestseller in Sweden. The series has since been published in nine countries and has sold over 300,000 copies in Sweden alone. Through the series, Kallentoft reconnects with his childhood home, creating an innovative series of crime novels that are both poignant and packed with suspense. Critics and readers agree that Mons Kallentoft was born to tell the story of Malin Fors.
