Peter T. Deutermann, also known as P.T. Deutermann, is an accomplished American author who specializes in writing suspense, mystery, thriller, and police procedural novels. Deutermann has had a distinguished career in the military before turning his attention to the literary world. He served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years, retiring as a captain. After his retirement, Deutermann's first novel was published, and he secured a book deal with St. Martin's Press. Three of his novels have been optioned for feature films.
Deutermann's naval career provided him with a wealth of experiences that inform his writing. He held three commands, including a Swiftboat in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam, a guided missile destroyer in the Atlantic Fleet, and a destroyer squadron based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. His last tour of duty was as the division director for chemical, biological, and radiological weapons arms control negotiations on the staff of the Joint Chiefs in Washington, D.C. These experiences have undoubtedly provided him with a deep understanding of military culture and operations, which he brings to life in his novels.
In addition to his military service, Deutermann is also an accomplished academic, holding a BS in naval engineering and an MA in public administration from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. He is also a Member of the Royal College of Defence Studies in London. Deutermann has published twenty novels since 1992, all with St. Martins Press. His World War II adventure novel Pacific Glory won the W. Y. Boyd Literary Award for Excellence in Military Fiction, administered by the American Library Association. His other World War II novels include Ghosts of Bungo Suido and Sentinels of Fire. His most recent novel is Cold Frame, a contemporary thriller set in Washington, D.C. He has completed his 21st novel, entitled The Iceman, a World War II navy submarine story, scheduled for publication in August 2018. Deutermann is married and has two children. He and his wife of 50 years live in Rockingham County, in the Piedmont of North Carolina, on their family pony farm.
