Paul D. Marks

Paul D. Marks is a published American author known for his award-winning mystery-thrillers. His works often feature imperfect or flawed characters trying to do the right thing in a corrupt and unjust world. Marks' writing offers a unique perspective on current issues, as his novels White Heat and Broken Windows, though set in the 1990s, tackle themes that remain highly relevant today, such as racism and immigration.

Marks has received critical acclaim for his storytelling. White Heat is described as a "taut crime yarn" by Publishers Weekly, while Betty Webb of Mystery Scene Magazine hails Broken Windows as "extraordinary." His short story, Ghosts of Bunker Hill, was voted the number one story in the 2016 Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine Readers Poll, and his story Windward won the 2018 Macavity Award for Best Short Story. Marks' work has also been included in several anthologies, such as Coast to Coast: Private Eyes from Sea to Shining Sea, which was nominated for multiple awards and featured stories chosen for The Best American Mysteries of 2018.

Paul D. Marks is a prolific writer who has been published in various magazines, including Beat to a Pulp, Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, Switchblade, and Hardboiled. He is an L.A. writer at heart, living in the Los Angeles area with his wife, dogs, and cats. Marks has a deep connection to the film industry, serving on the board of the L.A. chapter of Sisters in Crime and currently serving on the board of the SoCal chapter of Mystery Writers of America. He holds the distinction of being the last person to have shot a film on the fabled MGM backlot before it was demolished to make way for condos.
