Dr. Paul C. Doherty is a renowned English author, best known for his historical mystery novels and non-fiction history books. He was born on September 21, 1946, in Middlesbrough, The United Kingdom. Doherty received his education at Liverpool University, where he earned a First Class Honors Degree in History. He further pursued his studies at Exeter College, Oxford, where he earned his doctorate for his thesis on Edward II.
Prior to his academic pursuits, Doherty had a brief stint studying for the Catholic Priesthood at Durham. However, he decided to leave and instead focus on his history studies. While at Oxford, he met his wife Carla Lynn Corbitt. After completing his studies, Doherty chose not to continue in academia and instead became a secondary school teacher. He taught in various schools in Crawley in West Sussex and Ascot in Nottingham before being appointed as the Headmaster at Trinity Catholic School in 1981. Under his leadership, the school has gained recognition as one of the leading comprehensives in the United Kingdom.
Doherty's writing career began in 1987, with the publication of a series of historical mysteries set in the Middle Ages, Classical Greece, Ancient Egypt, and other locations. His novels have been published in several countries, including the United States, Spain, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Italy, Romania, Estonia, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Bulgaria, Portugal, China, Argentina, and Mexico. He has also written several non-fiction titles, including a biography of Isabella the She-wolf of France and studies on the possible murder of Tutankhamun and the true fate of Alexander the Great.
Doherty has written under several pseudonyms, including P.C. Doherty, Celia L. Grace, Paul Harding, Ann Dukthas, Vanessa Alexander, Michael Clynes, and Anna Apostolou. However, he now writes only under his own name. He is currently the Headmaster of Trinity Catholic High School in Woodford Green, Essex.
