Paul J. McAuley

Paul J. McAuley is a renowned author of fiction, born in 1955 in England. He has written over twenty novels, exploring various genres, from crime and mystery to suspense thriller and science fiction. McAuley's diverse body of work has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Philip K. Dick Memorial Award, the Arthur C. Clarke Award, the John W. Campbell award, the Sidewise Award, the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award, and the British Fantasy Award for best short story.

Before pursuing a full-time writing career, McAuley worked as a research biologist in different universities, including Oxford and UCLA. He also spent six years as a lecturer in botany at St Andrews University. His research primarily focused on symbioses between unicellular algae and coelenterates, such as green hydra, sea anemones, and reef-forming corals. McAuley currently resides in North London and has not yet managed to walk down every street in the A-Z. However, he is actively working on achieving this goal.
