Peter Corris

Peter Corris is a well-known Australian author, particularly recognized for his contributions to the genres of crime fiction, historical fiction, and non-fiction. He was born in Stawell, Victoria, and raised in Melbourne, where he attended Melbourne High School. Corris went on to attend the University of Melbourne and later earned his M.A. in History at Monash University and his PhD in History from Australian National University. His love for reading, writing, golf, weight training, and film is evident in his diverse body of work.

Corris is perhaps best known for his Cliff Hardy series, but he has also written series featuring other prominent characters such as Richard Browning, Ray Crawley, and Luke Dunlop. As a journalist, historian, and academic, Corris has brought a unique perspective to the world of crime fiction. He is often described as the "Godfather of contemporary crime writing" in Australia, and is credited with reviving the Australian crime novel by setting his stories in local environments with distinctly Australian characters. Corris's successful career as an author has been recognized with numerous awards and nominations, including the Lifetime Achievement award at the Ned Kelly Awards for Crime Writing in 1999. His recent book, "The Journal of Fletcher Christian," is a nod to his earlier career as a journalist and his interests in Pacific affairs and history.
